Only for Vice President Sarney to take his place.

Meanwhile out west they said "so long" to Route 66.

And Christa McAuliffe was ready to be the first teacher in space.

The Sahrawi Arab Democratic Republic,
Now known as the West Sahara.
In Hiroshima the citizens mark the 40th anniversary of the atomic bombs,
And the very next day they announce those who will be going in to outer space.
The worst single-craft disaster to happen in history,
Occurs when a flight crashes and kills 520.
After years of searching at the bottom of the sea,
The remains of Titanic are found finally.
Pete Rose becomes the all-time hit leader with his 4,192 hit in Cincinnati,
While the Plaza Accord is signed in New York City.
Space Shuttle Atlantis takes its first flight,
And the Free Software Foundation starts off right.
A highlight of the year was the Nintendo Entertainment System,
Which was released to much anticipation.
Talking about anticipation,
Antarctica had its own total solar eclipse.

While lastly Microsoft releases Windows 1.0.
What was the best part of this memorable year?
Well that's for you to decide, fair and square.
